Are you feeling down or disappointed most often? If you are experiencing persistent feelings of sadness, grief, lack of motivation and fatigue, you might be suffering from depression. It is a mental condition that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and how you act.
Depression is not beautiful. You literally become your worst enemy. It’s like a monster in your head that takes over. You’re either so high with excessive happiness and most of the time so down that you doubt you can never see the rainbow again. The worst thing is that, while many people learn to manage daily life with symptoms of depression, there is the one that requires immediate attention – suicidal ideation.
Major depression is a significant risk factor for suicide. Globally, more than 264 million people of all ages suffer from this deteriorating disorder. It links people to committing suicide up to 60%. Every year, more than 700,000 people die by suicide which is one person in every 40 seconds. It is a global phenomenon and occurs throughout the lifespan.
People with depression sometimes are not recognized up until talking about feeling of helplessness or having no reason to live, talking about being trapped or in an unbearable pain, talking about being a burden to others, sleeping too much, isolating from others, thinking about wanting to die or to kill themselves and sometimes searching online or on YouTube ways how to do it.
Don’t despair and resort to this dreadful scenario. Suicide is not the cure. Depression, like among other mental disorders, is highly treatable. It is something every person must face and manage to seek help.
Everyone can help anyone cope up with depression. Psychotherapy or “talk therapy” is sometimes used alone for treatment of depression. It can help you deal with negative thoughts and feelings and make positive changes. “Talking” works out what is really bothering you and it can explore what you could do about it. It is an important part of your every relationship.
Your friends, family and partners play an integral role in the healing process. The closest to someone living with depression can be a huge source of love. Reaching out for help is the sign that you still want to live and sharing compelling experiences can frame the way you treat others, for the better. Talk to your love ones. This is a powerful step.
